We have recently written about Cubot smartphone, that is not much popular like Xiaomi like a brand, but worth checking it out. Today in this article, we are going to take a closer look at Cubot Rainbow 2 smartphone.
Cubot Rainbow 2 Packaging
This cubot rainbow 2 smartphone comes in excellent packaging. On the top of the box, there is CUBOT branding in silver color. The box packaging is superb and made up of high-quality cardboard.
Once the box is opened, you will see a phone along with silicone bumper and protective film covered to the phone. It is very good to have such additional accessories along with the box. Even the phone is manufactured in China; you will get user manual in English. That is a superb option for the International user.[If you read user manual 🙂 ]
When you open the box, you will see headset, USB charger (EU) and a cable (USB and microUSB). The device we got has screen glass protector applied on the screen along with back cover on this device. Cabel is around 1m long and made of very good material.
Cubot Rainbow 2 Design
While creating a cheap smartphone, manufacturer mostly ignores the appearance of the device. Fortunately for this device, it does not happen. Rainbow 2 device comes with a very stylish look that can be seen on the device. Corner of the device is rounded for better ergonomics, so you will not have to face any issue when you hold it for a longer period.
This Cubot rainbow 2 smartphone comes with 5-inch IPS display. Screen resolution is only HD(1280 x 720 px), but when we view it or look at it, there is satisfactory viewing experience, but not as compared to other full HD models. This device does not have capacitive buttons on the screen, you can find it below the screen, but not having a backlight.
On the bottom, you will find the 2 speakers, a Front camera with 5MP selfie camera. On the back, you will see 2 cameras paired with LED flashlight. Other standard sensors can be found above the screen.
Back cover is removable and made up of plastic material. The back cover is very smooth and doesn’t leave our fingerprint on the back. It does not make bulky and slim too. There are up to 5 color variant available for this device; we have got a black variant.
The good thing on Cubot Rainbow 2 is a dual camera placed on the back of the device. The entire phone comes with a metal frame that carries the hardware as well as back & front panels.
Volume rocker button and power buttons are located on the right side of the device.
Audio jack and micro USB port are located at the top of the device. You can plug earphone and play music you want to listen to. MicroUSB port can be used to charge the device. On the left side, there is nothing as SIM card slot, and MicroSD card slots are placed on the back panel.
The back panel is removable, but the battery is not.
Camera performance is not as we have expected, so if you are planning to buy this phone for photography, honestly it is not a right choice for you. If we talk about hardware, this smartphone comes with MediaTek MTK 6580 quad-core CPU running at 1.3GHz. This device is OTG supported & comes with 1GB RAM. Nowadays people loves to have more GB RAM phones, so 1GB is quite less as compared to other latest smartphones.
Internal storage capacity of this device is 16GB that is acceptable, which we can expand up to 256GB using external microSD card. The good thing about this device is it runs on latest Nougat Android 7.0 OS.

Verdict
If we look at the specification of Cubot rainbow 2 smartphones, you will understand where the company has saved to came up with a cheap phone. It’s cheap smartphone with latest OS installed in it with low price tag. Camera result is not good enough but if we compare it with price tag, dual camera and latest OS installed in it, we might think twice before thinking about another phone.
