Yesterday, Xiaomi’s CEO Bin Lin posted a video demonstration on Weibo showing a new fast-charging technology that charges smartphones at a whopping rate of 100 watts. According to the video demonstration, the new charging technology by Xiaomi can charge a smartphone with a 4,000 mAh battery from 0 to 100 percent in 17 minutes. The numbers are pretty impressive when compared to the next best thing in the industry.

Head of Redmi products Lu Weibing has just announced that their company will be producing Xiaomi’s Super Charge Turbo 100 watt charging technology in bulk for its smartphones. This makes Redmi the first company to mass-produce the unparalleled charging solution created by Xiaomi.

The video demonstration shows an unnamed Xiaomi smartphone with a 4,000 mAh battery going to toe-to-toe against what seems to be an OPPO R17 Pro smartphone. The OPPO R17 Pro houses two battery packs totaling at about 3,400 mAh and the smartphone also supports OPPO’s SuperVOOC fast charging technology that can charge smartphones at a rate of 50 watts.

The video shows that Xiaomi’s new 100 watt charging technology can charge a 4,000 mAh battery from 0 to 100 percent in the same time as a smartphone with a 3,700 mAh battery and SuperVOOC technology will take to reach just 65 percent from 0 percent. Considering that OPPO’s SuperVOOC is the most powerful fast charging method after Xiaomi’s Super Charge Turbo, Xiaomi has a 100 percent lead over its closest competitor in the arena of fast charging solutions.

The company hasn’t yet confirmed the name for this amazing fast charging technology yet nor has Xiaomi revealed the 100 watt charging technology from any official channel other than the Weibo post by the company’s CEO. Based on the video description, we can assume that the technology will be called Super Charge Turbo.

Redmi is expected to produce the Super Charge Turbo 100 watt charging solution for its upcoming Redmi smartphone which is also being speculated to feature Qualcomm’s latest and greatest chipset, the Snapdragon 855. The Snapdragon 855 is a state of the art octa-core chipset based on 7nm fabrication technology.

A Redmi executive recently told that the upcoming flagship powered by the Snapdragon 855 won’t be launched anytime soon. Based on this statement, we can guess that the Redmi flagship smartphone has a few months of development before it is launched. This time is enough for Redmi to mass produce Xiaomi’s Super Charge Turbo technology and feature it in the upcoming flagship smartphone.

This isn’t the first time Xiaomi has launched a fast charging technology. The flagship smartphone Xiaomi Mi 9 featured a fast-charging technology that delivered 27 watts over wired charging and 20 watts through the wireless charging pad. However, the latest technology by Xiaomi is nowhere near the company’s previous feats in the arena.

The only question that remains to be answered is when will we see the technology in one of Xiaomi’s own smartphones?
