It is no surprise that Oppo Reno – Oppo’s all-new smartphone series – has been receiving more than the usual amount of attention that a normal smartphone would receive. The new flagship has been subjected to countless rumors, leaks, and teasers in the recent months and a lot of its specifications were already revealed before its official launching in China today. One thing that we were never told by any leak of official teasers is that the Oppo Reno 10X Zoom variant and the regular Reno will be featuring shark fin-style selfie camera.

The Oppo Reno 10X Zoom is clearly a flagship smartphone for the company which features a triple-lens camera set up at the back. The camera holds a 48MP f/1.7 lens as its primary sensor while a Periscope 13MP f/3.0 telephoto lens and an 8 MP f/2.2 ultra-wide lens support the main lens to capture the ultimate image.

As the name suggests, the Oppo Reno 10X Zoom features a 10X hybrid zoom achieved by hardware zooming mechanism combined with software-based zooming. Oppo has clearly decided to take on Huawei’s P30 Pro’s camera result and has done a great job at beating it. The periscope module featured in the Reno 10X Zoom is much wider and high-res than Huawei’s champion.

We have learned after today’s launching that the smartphone packs yet another innovative feature related to its cameras. The Oppo Reno and 10X Zoom will feature a shark fin-style selfie camera. The single-sensor front camera packs a 16MP f/2.0 lens which lifts up from inside the top of the smartphone’s body when activated. The front camera offers about 79-degree field of view.

The new flagship doesn’t only excel in its camera specifications either. The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Edition houses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC which is the latest flagship by the giant semiconductor manufacturer. The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom will be available with 6GB or 8 GB RAM and with 128 GB or 256 GB of internal storage.

The display of the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom is a 6.6” Full HD+ AMOLED panel which has no notches and has a screen-to-body ratio of a whopping 93.1%. This is an exceptional feat by Oppo because the front panel does not reveal any kind of sensors on the front. The shark fin-style selfie camera gets the main credit for this achievement. Moreover, the front display has embedded fingerprint sensing capabilities – yet another big win for Oppo in terms of staying on the cutting edge of mobile technology.

The Reno 10x Zoom runs on Android Pie (Android version 9.XX) out of the box and the default UX is replaced by Oppo’s ColorOS 6.0. It will be powered by a 4,065 mAH battery which supports VOOC 3.0 fast charging technology.

The flagship smartphone is being offered in two color schemes. The Fog Sea Green and Extreme Night Black. The 6/128GB model costs $595, the 6/256 GB model costs $670, and the 8/256 GB variant has a price tag of $714.
